Obligatory Items in your car

Postby pitway on Mon May 26, 2008 11:50 pm

Hi all,

Most of us know that it is obligatory to have certain items in your car, triangle that sort of thing,

I read on our notice board at work today that as from the 1st July this year it will become obligatory to have a yellow reflective vest as well as a headlight bulb (full set of bulbs, not sure?) and a triangle.

Hopefully I am not the last person in the world to find this out!!

I do believe that the EEC are secretly training monkeys to act as emergency break-down crew.....The said monkeys will ride in car trunks and quickly react to a small red light that flashs when the driver presses a large red button on the dashboard....They hope to introduce "The Monkey in The Boot" in 2011....Firstly in the UK.....In time for the Olympics....Then by 2014 accross the rest of Europe, which by that time will include the whole of the Middle East but excluding Iran and Israel because they don't play nice in the "Sand Pit".....;-)

If some one PM's me their email address.....As wmv attachments will not upload to forum....I can send film of a simular scheme that was tried in the States by a tire company. (No Joking)

will it be the same as in Spain where you have to have a yellow jacket for each occupant?

I'm not sure, the notice just says that it becomes compulsery in the 1st July, I didn't notice wether it said you had to have more than one, I will have a closer look when I am in work Thurs morning.

Hi all,
I thought that it had been a legal requirement to have these items for quite a while now.
As I type this I am looking at a leaflet issued by P&O Ferries (and I havn't used these since they shut down operations in Le Havre)
It states European Law requires you to carry/use the following items:

HEADLAMP BEAM ADAPTORS......Failure to adapt your headlamps at any time DAY or NIGHT, will render your vehicle UNFIT for use on the road and could invalidate your motor insurance.

GB PLATES..........A GB plate must be displayed on the rear of your vehicle, caravan or trailer.

WARNING TRIANGLES............Drivers must be able to give advance warning of a hazard on the road. Hazaerd warning lights alone are NOT always sufficient.
TWO triangles are required in Spain.

SPARE BULBS..........Drivers must be in a position to replace any blown exterior light, even during daylight hours. Failure to do so could result in
temporary cessation of your journey and/or an on the spot fine.

FIRST AID KIT & FIRE EXTINGUISHER.......The European Good Samaritan Law requires every driver to stop and provide assistance in the event of an accident
providing it is safe to do so.

REFLECTIVE VEST............European Law now requires all vehicles to carry reflective vests for drivers AND ALLtheir passengers, for use in the event of
breakdowns or emergencies.
This is now a legal requirement in a number of European countries.[i]EU Ref: RD 1428/2003 and Art. 162 Cod4 Bis4 Ter-CDS 2003[i]

The leaflet I Have copied this from is AT LEAST 3 years old.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not buy any of the above items from a ferry port UNLESS you are prepared to take out a second mortgage!!!!! :-)

Paul.

prior to having to legislate, carrying these items was just common sense, hence the need to legislate :)

I'm with you Sparty. Ignore those personal jibes. You'll be ok soon, just need to stick it out for a little while longer. ;)
